♟️CITY OF PHILADELPHIA

Parker Administration

Monday opened with an affordable housing announcement. Mayor Parker joined officials from the Philadelphia Land Bank and Philadelphia Housing Development Corporation to unveil the first Turn the Key development in the 8th Council District. The program helps first-time homebuyers purchase newly constructed, energy-efficient homes built on city-owned land.

The mayor then joined Dr. Alycia Marshall, President of the Community College of Philadelphia, for the City College for Municipal Employment (CCME) commencement. The ceremony recognized residents who completed CCME's workforce training programs, which are designed to prepare Philadelphians for municipal careers and deliver long-term economic impact.

On Tuesday, Mayor Parker joined Philadelphia Soccer 2026 leaders for a “Know Before You Go” press conference ahead of the FIFA World Cup. The event highlighted the host committee's public safety and transportation plans — developed in coordination with city agencies and partners — as Philadelphia prepares to welcome a significant influx of visitors.

She then headed to Parkway Central Library, where she joined Free Library President and Director Kelly Richards to launch Summer Quest — an initiative offering summer-long learning opportunities for children and adults across all 54 neighborhood library branches.

Mayor Parker closed Tuesday at the Police Athletic League Awards Gala, where local leaders gathered to celebrate the league's impact on Philadelphia youth and recognize individuals who have created opportunities for young people across the city.

The Office of Immigrant Affairs kicked off its 13th annual Immigrant Heritage Month celebration, this year carrying added resonance amid the nation's 250th anniversary. Throughout June, the office will highlight untold stories of immigrants' contributions to American history and civic life.

On Thursday, the mayor held a briefing in the Mayor's Reception Room on the Fiscal Year 2027 budget, following City Council's preliminary approval — with a final vote expected June 11.

Philadelphia City Council

Philadelphia City Council committees considered a broad range of measures impacting transportation, public health, housing, economic development, and city operations. Discussions included proposed updates to bicycle lane designations, sidewalk cafés, and farmers markets; the creation of a new chapter in the Philadelphia Code related to U-Visa and T-Visa certifications; water bill relief and utility affordability programs; and legislation supporting operations at Philadelphia International Airport. Committees also reviewed zoning and affordable housing proposals, tax and fiscal policy measures, municipal financing initiatives, and investments in public infrastructure and city services.

City Council held its regular session and preliminarily approved the Fiscal Year 2027 budget package, advancing the City's spending plan ahead of final adoption later this month. Several proposed tax-related measures under consideration were held in committee and are not expected to move forward this session.

COMMONWEALTH OF PENNSYLVANIA

Shapiro Administration

With the June 30 budget deadline approaching, the Governor's schedule this week is expected to remain focused on negotiations in the Capitol, with fewer public-facing events.

The Shapiro Administration announced a $10 million investment from the Kurt J. Lesker Company to expand operations in Centre and Allegheny counties, with the state contributing $340,000 to support the expansion and the creation of 39 new jobs.

Governor Shapiro joined DCED Secretary Rick Siger in Lebanon County to cut the ribbon on SCHOTT Pharma USA's newly expanded manufacturing facility. The $60 million expansion triples SCHOTT's U.S. manufacturing capacity, retains more than 200 jobs, and strengthens the domestic supply of pharmaceutical glass vials used to deliver injectable medications. Shapiro used the event to tout his proposed Innovate in PA 2.0 program — a $100 million budget item aimed at investing in life sciences and the broader innovation economy.
