At today's session of the Philadelphia City Council, the legislative body unanimously approved Bill 230489, which creates a camera-based enforcement for parking and other violations in bus only lanes in order to improve safety and efficiency. The system will be operated by the Philadelphia Parking Authority. It will operate on SEPTA vehicles in Center City on trolley routes and on JFK Boulevard and Market, Chestnut and Walnut streets.

Highlight of Introductions: 

  • Councilmembers Jones and Squilla on behalf of Council President Clarke introduced an ordinance proposing an amendment to the Philadelphia Home Rule Charter to provide for indemnification and defense by the City in connection with claims made against any registered community organization arising directly out of the lawful participation by such an organization in zoning matters and related land-use process; and authorizing the appropriate officers to publish notice and to make arrangements for the special election.

  • Councilmember Harrity introduced an ordinance amending Chapter 9-2300 of The Philadelphia Code to provide greater protections for displaced contract workers.

  • Councilmember Jones on behalf of Council President Clarke introduced a resolution honoring and celebrating the life and memory of our friend and colleague, Robert "Chris" Goy, II.

  • Councilmember Jones introduced a resolution authorizing the City Council Committee on Public Health and Human Services to hold public hearings exploring the effects of recent pharmacy closures, including Rite Aid, in the City of Philadelphia and the impact this has on prescription access and vital pharmacy health services for senior citizens.

  • The Parks, Recreation and Cultural Affairs Committee will hold a Public Hearing on Thursday, November 2, 2023, at 1:00 P.M., to hear testimony on Bill No 230576
