♟️CITY OF PHILADELPHIA

Parker Administration

Mayor Parker opened the week with a full stretch of Juneteenth celebrations spanning the holiday weekend. On Friday, she joined the African American Museum, Visit Philadelphia, and Wawa Welcome America for the annual Juneteenth Jubilee Block Party — the official kickoff to Wawa Welcome America's 15-day festival leading up to the Fourth of July. This year's block party carried added significance as the museum marked its 50th anniversary. Over the weekend, Parker attended the 7th Annual Southwest Juneteenth Festival, where the community continued the celebration through live entertainment and neighborhood programming. She then headed to the Johnson House Historic Site's 20th Annual Philadelphia Juneteenth Festival — one of the most significant Underground Railroad sites in the country and provided a fitting location for a celebration rooted in the history and legacy of the freedom movement.

On Monday, Parker joined Council President Kenyatta Johnson and education leaders on a trip to Harrisburg to rally for safe and modern school facilities, calling on state lawmakers to increase investment in public school infrastructure across Pennsylvania. Parker called on the General Assembly to double the state's school facility renovation fund from $125 million to $250 million — funding the district will need as it embarks on a $3.3 billion plan to modernize 169 school buildings.

On Wednesday, Parker joined former President Joe Biden, former Gov. Ed Rendell, and elected officials for the opening night gala of 1776: The Musical at the Philadelphia High School for Creative and Performing Arts. The production is performed entirely by Philadelphia high school students and was conceived by Rendell as a way to connect young people to the history of the Declaration of Independence ahead of the nation's 250th anniversary.

COMMONWEALTH OF PENNSYLVANIA

Shapiro Administration

On Tuesday, members of the Shapiro Administration and DHS Secretary Dr. Val Arkoosh visited Boyertown Children’s Center in Montgomery County to highlight a $25 million investment to recruit and retain Pennsylvania child care workers, expand access to quality care, and ensure more parents can stay in the workforce and provide for their families. The Governor’s 2026-27 proposed budget continues this progress by including an investment of an additional $10 million to support employees at licensed child care centers in the federal Child Care Works program, bringing the total investment to $35 million.
